What’s in Store at CDW 2022?

With Clerkenwell Design Week almost in touching distance and excitement building after a two-year hiatus – we can’t wait to throw open the doors to our newly refurbished showroom and launch three new ranges of British designed and manufactured office furniture.

Preview – Staverton’s refurbished showroom

We’ll be open throughout Clerkenwell Design Week (Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th May) from 10 to 5pm so you can experience the Staverton brand first-hand. Our three newest launches will be available to view and try with plenty of hospitality on hand.

One of our launches at Clerkenwell this year is Staverton Scrumwall – a new space-defining structure which supports workplace agility and scrum-led, team activities. Scrumwall is a free-standing version of our already successfully wall-mounted meeting room solution Staverton WW – and it is available in both single-sided and double-sided versions. Intended to help create distinct spaces within open-plan floor plates, Scrumwall also houses AV capability discretely, can support standing or sitting height tables and in true Staverton style – can be configured to suit a wide variety of space requirements and aesthetics. (You can find out more about Scrumwall and the project we first developed this for here).

We’re also launching Staverton TT, a super flexible product which also defines space and builds storage into the office. This modular grid-based shelving system has several exclusive features including six sizes of grid building blocks for more configurations and a mobile option with wheels, plus it’s available in a selection of insert finishes in wood and plain colours, as well as acoustic fabrics. You can also add lockers, cabinets, planters, standing tables, desks, whiteboards, TVs and a whole lot more for the ultimate personalisation.

Our third and final launch is the newly updated SOS2 – our sit-stand desk.

We launched our first SOS sit-stand desk in 2014 and since then have used our experience and insights as a sit-stand desk manufacturer to refine its design. Its new features improve choice, aid workplace agility, maintain the design aesthetic and reduce cost.

Staverton SOS2 retains all the functionality and benefits of our original SOS sit-stand desk and includes significant new features such as a mobile option for agile working, hot-swappable actuators to enable easy conversion between fixed and height-adjustable positions, intermediate legs to reduce the cost on linked bench runs and retrofittable links to allow for easy reconfiguration of desk clusters.

There is also a sliding top option for easy cable access at rear of workstation as well as an 18mm fixed-top option, which facilitates the use of a wider variety of finishes.

Cable management has also been given careful design consideration with SOS2. It has improved and scalable features including standard and high-capacity lower cable management, an upper cable basket option to reduce costs, standard and high-capacity upper trays as well as leg frame cladding to hide cable ingress.

Can You Scrum in Your Workplace?

As the workplace assumes its new role as a hub for collaboration and community – it presents new office furniture requirements and in particular, the need to help people coalesce with ease.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Employee collaboration dropped 37%[1] during the pandemic. So, after almost two years of working in isolation, there is an overwhelming need for sociability, togetherness and inclusion, not just for employees but organisations too. Consequently, offices are being redesigned to meet these new requirements and offer the employee experiences that home-working simply cannot.

Helping people to coalesce easily is crucial to business for a variety of reasons – it maximises the serendipitous opportunities that arise when people are together, facilitates quick exchanges of ideas, builds relationships and bonds, improves knowledge sharing, creates energy and atmosphere and perhaps crucially of all – offers the agility that is so important in the new post covid workplace.

Employees really value being able to collaborate easily too. 75%[2] of employees consider collaboration and teamwork as very important, plus employees are typically 17%[3] more satisfied with their job when collaboration is part of their work and the organisation’s culture.

The financial benefits of improved collaboration are striking too. Collaboration is linked with increased sales, customer satisfaction and ratings, as well as being more innovative, productive and profitable than the businesses that don’t prioritise it. However, even with these compelling commercial gains – a study by Deloitte found that only 9%[4] of employees feel their workplace has all the collaboration tools they need. There is still work to do.

Set against this backdrop, we developed our new product Staverton Scrumwall. We designed it to give organisations the collaborative and flexible office furniture they need to make effective, relevant and agile workplaces. Initially, Scrumwall was created for a project with global sports betting, gaming and entertainment provider Flutter plc (you can read more about that here) to help them define activity-based work settings on open plan floorplates in an agile way – a challenge that many businesses will most certainly relate to.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Scrumwall is a free-standing version of our already successfully wall-mounted meeting room solution Staverton WW – and it is available in both single-sided and double-sided versions.

Perhaps its most significant design feature is that it can be configured to suit a wide variety of different space requirements, meeting styles and aesthetics. A range of modular components make it possible to customise the size, function and look of Scrumwall – so it can support standing height tables for quick exchanges, integrated technology for project meetings, sitting height desks for teamwork and credenzas (with or without doors) for storage.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Scrumwall supports worksurfaces in a variety of shapes and sizes. Face panels are available in different materials and finishes including dry wipe whiteboard, fabric upholstered and MFC to ensure maximum choice, plus they can be mixed and matched to create the perfect configuration.

Discreet cable management is always a key design consideration for Staverton, so Scrumwall offers worksurface-to-floor cable management thanks to our carefully designed cable duct with removable cover. The panels we’ve designed to mount TVs and monitors continue the theme, as they also ensure cables are hidden behind the panel.

It is because it’s been designed to bring structure and definition to space, that it offers much more value than just a piece of office furniture. It provides visual cues as to how spaces should be used, supports a wider variety of working styles and behaviours and offers all-important longevity, which means as needs change, the furniture can flex and adapt.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Staverton is well known for being a UK office furniture designer and manufacturer, a sit-stand desk manufacturer and a workstation supplier – but most of all we are problem-solvers with an innate knowledge of how changing workplace behaviours require more from agile office furniture solutions. Scrumwall is the perfect embodiment of that, and we will proudly launch it at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week, where we’ll invite workplace designers, workplace transformation leads and facility managers to experience it first-hand.

So, as the return to the workplace continues – it must be ready to encourage and support collaboration in spades. It really is time to ask yourself, can you scrum in your workplace?

Supporting Agility with Office Furniture

The workplace changes of the last two years have been seismic. In the wake of the pandemic, businesses now recognise the need to embrace agile and hybrid working in order to best support their operations and employees.

Office furniture has an important role to play in making workplace agility possible – it helps to define different activity-based work settings and zones, supports the very essence of how work is done and creates more desirable and well-equipped environments for an increasingly discerning workforce.

It’s one of the reasons why Staverton’s office furniture design and manufacturing expertise was called on to support global sports, betting and entertainment provider Flutter Entertainment Plc.

Flutter’s reinvention of its new global headquarters in Dublin, designed and built by Claremont, provided a perfect opportunity for British office furniture manufacturer Staverton to showcase its expertise solving workspace challenges with innovative furniture design.

As well as providing Flutter with office furniture for their temporary home during the 18-month build of their new 136,000 sq. ft home, Staverton was also tasked with designing and manufacturing a number of large space-defining structures to support scrum-led activities.

Staverton Scrumwall

The brief was to create agile and tech-compatible project dashboards to help Flutter’s numerous teams with collaboration and project meetings. The solution had to be flexible so it can be set up as required, provide greater definition of space and house AV capability discretely.

office-furniture-workstation-supplier-manufacturer-tables

Staverton TT

Building on Staverton’s existing wall-mounted meeting room solution WW – which incorporated TV mounting, acoustic panels, writable surfaces and space for AV equipment – the team set about designing a free-standing version. The product development process, which needed to include single and double-sided versions of the product, was fast-tracked over a few weeks.

Offering even greater flexibility than the brief initially required, Staverton’s Scrumwall also supports standing or sitting height tables, which can be connected at various points.

office-furniture-workstation-supplier-manufacturer-tables

Staverton ‘free-standing’ Scrumwall

Paul Edward, Staverton’s Managing Director said: “We have become the principal furniture supplier to Flutter companies and have been helping the business transition to more agile ways of working over the last five years.”

“Flutter’s new Dublin home is the very embodiment of agility and is an incredibly dynamic and modern space. The new Scrumwall product not only shows that furniture increasingly needs to fulfil a variety of different uses, but also that creative and bespoke solutions can add real value, particularly in workspaces with a very distinct sense of place and brand.”

As a leading sit-stand desk manufacturer, and the first company in Europe to design and manufacture a mobile sit-stand workstation for the commercial market, Staverton really understands the importance of agility – both in terms of offering choice and flexibility, as well as encouraging employees to be less sedentary.

Paul added: “The double-sided version of Scrumwall provides even greater flexibility for Flutter – as while a team is collaborating on one side, people can participate in standing meetings or sit at tables on the other. The beauty of Scrumwall is that it can be configured to suit business users’ needs – a fact that will almost certainly guarantee its popularity and long-term use.”

“At Staverton we are more than just a workstation supplier or a manufacturer of workstations and tables – we relish the opportunity to solve workplace challenges and to show how we can design and manufacture office furniture to suit clients’ specific needs. This project demonstrates this ethos perfectly.”

Flutter’s new Dublin home spans six floors and features a rich blend of activity-based work settings and large collaborative spaces, as well as an indoor football pitch in the newly built atrium, studio spaces, a mock-up shop, a frictionless retail store, relaxation and gaming areas and an on-site café.

Expect the Extraordinary

A Distinct Product Launch Campaign Promotes #StavertonLight

Staverton – UK’s award-winning and longstanding office furniture manufacturer – has launched its newest product development, a light-weight and cost-effective workstation range known as SL. This product line strengthens the company’s position as a contemporary, design-led, workspace specialist. The new addition is the result of market research and careful interpretation of customer feedback: data showed an increasing demand for more accessible, flexible and well-being focused office solutions.

In order to communicate the main benefits and key features of the SL range – light-weight framework, height-adjusting functionality, Desk Control software, cable management systems and a wide variety of colours and finishes to choose from – Staverton created an original product launch campaign. Two concepts were at the core of the communications strategy: high quality and cost efficiency. With this in mind, the marketing department was inspired to create the campaign tagline Expect the Extraordinary.

The message, which needed to draw attention, attract the target audiences, raise their brand awareness and generate engagement, was delivered using a content-rich and unique style. To represent the dual nature of SL, the Staverton team created two striking futuristic personalities known as The Cosmic Twins – which starred the campaign. Accordingly, the rest of the creative direction was structured around the aforementioned characters and tagline.

The campaign made use of different mediums, including a web page with a configurator – a customisation tool that allows visitors to see what the SL system looks like in different colours and finishes – brochures, press releases, direct-email advertisements and professional networks. Staverton also focused on various pre-launch actions. To draw customers to its website, the company appealed to their curiosity by producing a series of intriguing short videos that were periodically posted on social media. BTL – Below the Line – tactics, such as projection mapping, virtual reality experiences and brand presence at private and public events, were also used. These actions proved to be particularly helpful to establish rapport with small, influential customer groups or ‘tribes’.

Carlo Delucchi, Marketing Manager at Staverton, said: “SL is a great product range, we are very proud of its design and features, and see that the market is reacting positively to the benefits it offers. The launch campaign was a great experience, it’s the first time we have come through with such creative energy. The Cosmic Twins were meant to delight and deliver SL’s key messages, but also, to position Staverton as a reliable forward-thinking, office furniture manufacturer, and to reinforce brand attitude, behaviours and purchase intention”.

Early results of Staverton’s Cosmic Twins campaign include record-setting company website visits and – as in-house surveys show – an overall positive emotional response from our target audience. The originality of the campaign stems from the efforts of a structured team of professionals which included marketing specialists, designers, illustrators, copywriters, photographers, video makers, production artists, models and even musicians.

Staverton says ‘Just Move it’ with mobile sit stand desk

A new mobile sit stand desk will promote the ultimate in agile working according to its British designer and manufacturer, Staverton UK Ltd.

Named Staverton SMS the new desk will launch at this year’s three-day design festival, Clerkenwell Design Week (19th-21st May).

Staverton SMS is a full range of single desk and bench solutions that follows Staverton’s trademark style of sharing components to build-in longevity and flexibility.

The Staverton team can upgrade a static desk to a Sit Stand alternative and make SOS a mobile desk too, something it has already undertaken for international entertainment company King.

Paul Edward, director of Staverton UK Ltd said: “Staverton SMS single mobile desks are the ultimate in agile working because they can be moved as team requirements change. It’s ‘plug and play’ simplicity and easy to roll castors mean the team can do it for themselves and once it’s locked, it’s secure, wobble-free and ready for work.”

Staverton’s design team has worked hard to ensure that SMS maintains the clean lines it is renowned for. Low-level bulk capacity containment for power distribution and a cable management solution keeps everything concealed as the top raises and lowers. It is also visually compatible with Staverton CL, which means that a mix of sit stand and static desk solutions can be used together without compromising the design aesthetic.

Fully integrated power and data solutions can also be accommodated within SMS’s structure and in-set desktop power offers easy ‘plug and play’.

Staverton SOS product facts

  • 18 seconds from lowest (660m) to highest (1320mm)
  • Users can pre-programme the desks with their preferences
  • Desk control software can be installed to alert users when a change of position is advised
  • Monitor arms are simple to attach to the work surface.
  • Optional privacy screens, CPU cradles and personal drawers can be connected to the main structure with ease
  • Over-desk and integrated power and data options are accommodated
  • With the work surface at its lowest position, an under-desk pedestal can be used

Seven week countdown to Staverton CL installation at The Co-operative Group

British manufacturer, Staverton, will install 2800 CL benches for The Co-operative Group’s new head office in Manchester in just seven weeks’ time.

The win, which was announced earlier this year, is thought to be the largest furniture contract in the UK in 2012.

Staverton’s Rotherham factory is already in full production, ready for installation at the end of July.

The contract was secured after a period of collaborative design with The Co-operative Group and involved a six week turnaround from the initial brief to delivery of a proto-type.  The result is the new Staverton CL bench.  Concealing power and data resources within its core structure, the Staverton CL bench reduces IT and power installation costs during fit-out and throughout its life.

Tony Cole, design and manufacturing director for Staverton said: “This contract doesn’t simply recognise Staverton CL as a bench, it also acknowledges the way we approach clients’ briefs, really taking the time to understand and meet their specific needs. We were advised this was a real point of difference for us and are delighted with the outcome.  The factory is now very busy processing the order.”

Talking about the CL bench, Tony added: “By dealing with cabling and power in a creative manner we’ve designed a clever benching solution which ticks all the boxes for facilities managers, IT departments and most importantly, the employees.  The CL bench doesn’t compromise functionality or form.”

Staverton CL will be used with The Co-operative Group’s new 400,000 sq ft, BREEAM outstanding head office building at 1 Angel Square in Manchester.

Craig Lambert, facilities manager for The Co-operative Group said:  “Our challenge was to find a bench solution that could offer integrated power and data, protect the design aesthetic in our new head office and create flexible working spaces.”

“Staverton CL achieves this and surpasses everything else on the market. It was borne out of collaborative and clever thinking – Staverton really listened to our brief.”

The winner of a Design Guild Mark and the Design Prima Product Design award, Staverton CL is already receiving industry wide acclaim. For more information about CL view the product animation and client testimonial at www.staverton.co.uk/cl .

Design guild mark success for Staverton CL

It’s been proven.  Staverton CL really is clever thinking.

We’ve been awarded a Design Guild Mark by the Furniture Makers Company for the Staverton CL bench.

The award recognises the best of British design and excellence in the volume production of furniture.  It’s our second win in two months, following success with the Product Design award at Design Prima 2012.

Manufactured specifically for The Co-operative Group’s new 400,000 sqft head office in Manchester, the Staverton CL bench cleverly conceals power and data resources within the bench’s core structure.

Bulk capacity vertical cable risers and integrated power distribution unit allow desk power to be managed above the floor, reducing IT and power installation costs during fit-out and throughout the bench’s life.

Staverton has also developed a special power and data module, which is let into the desk’s surface. An optional sliding work-top creates a functional, clutter-free working platform that can be easily accessed and maintained by IT teams.

Key features:

  • An incorporated PDU powers up to ten desks with one 32 amp feed
  • Concealed power and data cabling
  • Optional sliding worktop for easy access to cabling
  • Individually height-settable desk tops
  • Quality finish and clean lines
  • Lifetime framework guarantee

Tony Cole, manufacturing and design director for Staverton and the originator of the CL bench said: “The Design Guild Mark is a coveted accolade and we’re delighted that Staverton CL is considered amongst the best of British furniture design. This second award win in as many months gives us invaluable third party endorsement and a great platform on which to take Staverton CL to an even wider market.”
